Dorsal fins are categorized based on location of identifiable marks. Software programs are available to sort and match dorsal fins, but for the scope of this project, dorsal fins are inspected visually. Each identified individual is given a unique number like this: PA.04.01.18-001. The number is broken down as follows; PA is the location, Port Aransas, followed by the date it was identified. The last number is the numerical number assigned to the individual in the order it was identified on that day. This allows us to see at a glance when the individual was identified and where. In some of the categories, we have added some images of dorsal fins from a previous study in 2013. As more data comes in, more photos will be added
